Narrative-driven LOTR game

Lord of the Rings: Gollum is an action-adventure game from Daedalic Entertainment—a German studio known for its point-and-click adventure games. This game, while set in the Lord of the Rings world, will not feature events of the popular fictional series. Instead, it will take place in the years following Gollum's acquisition of the one ring. It will give players a glimpse of what happened to the beloved character before his appearance in the book.

Follow Gollum and his precious

Lord of the Rings: Gollum uses a clever timeframe, as it provides the developers with the creative freedom to add new murkier bits to the lore. The game begins in Barad-Dur, a Mordor fortress where they keep creatures against their will. This gives the game some kind of prison break element. Beyond Mordor, players will meet up with a variety of LOTR characters mentioned in the preface of the novella’s main storyline.

The game focuses more on stealth instead of endless battles. Moreover, it does not afford Gollum with many abilities aside from survival, stealth, and speed. With this, it can focus on platforming gameplay and subterfuge over character progression and skill trees. Although there are enemy types—like Orcs and Spiders—that players need to fight, the game moved away from the violence usually found in LOTR games.

Lord of the Rings: Gollum makes for an interesting exploration of the varied landscape of Middle-earth. Long-time fans of the series will get to traverse a variety of environments—from Mordor and Mt. Doom to Hobbiton and Rivendell. However, Gollum would not look like how the movie presented him. While it has a lot of familiar features, the developers gave it a cartoonish twist. The game also started with the person he was and evolved him as his adventure progresses.

Discover Gollum

Lord of the Rings: Gollum is an ambitious game that provides a big change for the series’ video game adaptation. With its new timeframe, it offers a unique addition to the Tolkien canon. It also shies away from the usual gameplay that other adaptation games offer. Moreover, the game will make you feel a little different—perhaps more emphatic and positive—towards Gollum.
